Colorado Governor Revamps Housing Initiatives Following Legislative Setback

Colorado Governor Jared Polis has issued an executive order directing his administration to promote and streamline affordable housing development in the state, despite the failure of his signature bill aimed at boosting affordable housing in the legislature. The order sets strategic growth goals and calls on state agencies to inventory policies and programs that support housing development. The governor hopes to reduce the turnaround time for approving funding for affordable housing projects and wants the process to take as few as 10 days. The order does not come with additional funding, which would require legislative action. Polis believes promoting more housing development, mainly through density, will help address the state's housing crisis.
