North Carolina’s Republican-majority state legislature will vote today on whether to overturn Governor Roy Cooper’s veto of a 12-week abortion ban. The move could deal a fresh blow to one of the last bastions of abortion access in the south, which has been significantly curtailed after the supreme court overturned Roe v Wade last year. Cooper, a Democrat, honored a vow he made to North Carolinians to protect reproductive rights by vetoing SB 20 during a public rally in Raleigh on Saturday, which was attended by thousands.
