Kim Potter, former officer convicted in Daunte Wright's death, released from prison

Former Minnesota police officer Kim Potter has been released from prison after serving 16 months of a two-year sentence for the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright, an unarmed Black man, during a 2021 traffic stop. Potter was convicted of two counts of manslaughter after mistaking her gun for a Taser. Wright's family received a $3.25 million settlement from the city of Brooklyn Center, which also agreed to create an unarmed department to handle incidents where a city resident is primarily experiencing a medical, mental health, disability-related, or other behavioral or social need. The city has yet to implement the resolution, but is working on policy recommendations.
