US Charges Russian Soldiers with War Crimes for Torturing American in Ukraine

Four Russian soldiers have been charged with war crimes against an American citizen living in Ukraine during the Russian invasion. This marks the first time the US government has used a decades-old law to prosecute war crimes against American citizens. The soldiers allegedly violently abducted, beat, tortured, and threatened to kill the American during his 10-day captivity. The charges include unlawful confinement, conspiracy to commit war crimes, inhuman treatment, and torture. Attorney General Merrick Garland called the charges an important step towards accountability for the illegal war in Ukraine.
