Tense Encounter: Chinese Fighter Jet's Close Call with US B-52 Bomber over South China Sea

A Chinese fighter jet came within 10 feet of an American B-52 bomber during a nighttime intercept over the South China Sea, demonstrating "poor airmanship" and putting both planes at risk of collision, according to U.S. officials. This incident is part of a series of over 180 "unsafe, unprofessional, and other behaviors" by China's People's Liberation Army since fall 2021. The Pentagon has released videos and descriptions of 15 recent instances of "coercive and risky operational behavior" by China, but none involved a Chinese fighter harassing a U.S. bomber until now.
