"U.S. Navy Sailor in Japan Charged with Espionage"

A U.S. Navy sailor based in Japan, Bryce Pedicini, has been charged with espionage for allegedly providing classified material to a foreign government. He is accused of passing documents and photos to an employee of a foreign government multiple times between November 2022 and May 2023. Pedicini, who was assigned to the USS Higgins, is also accused of failing to report a foreign contact and taking a personal electronic device into a secure room. This comes after another sailor, Wenheng Zhao, was sentenced to prison earlier this year for accepting bribes from a Chinese intelligence officer in exchange for providing photos of U.S. military information.
