The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and Southwest Clean Air Agency have issued an air quality advisory for the Portland-Vancouver metro area, Central Oregon, and parts of Southern Oregon due to smoke from wildfires in Oregon and Northern California. The advisory recommends staying indoors, keeping windows and doors closed, avoiding strenuous outdoor activity, and using HEPA filters or air purifiers. People at higher risk, such as infants, young children, and those with heart or lung disease, should take extra precautions. Cloth, dust, and surgical masks are not effective against smoke particles, and respirators may not be suitable for children or individuals with certain medical conditions.
