Michigan's Shortest Sturgeon Season Canceled Due to Ice Conditions

Michigan's Department of Natural Resources canceled the 2024 Black Lake sturgeon fishing season due to the risk of excessive harvest and rapidly melting ice, marking the first cancellation in the state's history. The decision aims to protect the threatened sturgeon population and ensure angler safety. Despite the cancellation, the nonprofit Sturgeon for Tomorrow will still host its annual Shivaree fundraiser to support sturgeon recovery, protection, and conservation efforts.
