Kansas Halts Turkey Hunting for the Season

Kansas Wildlife and Parks has suspended turkey hunting season due to declining turkey populations at state and regional levels. The decision was made after recommendations from staff and public meetings, as consistent declines in turkey populations have been observed over the past 15 years. The fall season, although having fewer participants, is still an important component of the overall harvest. Previous measures have been taken to reduce the impact of the fall season, such as reducing bag limits and shortening season dates. Turkey hunters in Kansas support the decision, hoping that no fall hunting season will lead to increased survival and reproduction rates in the spring. The Kansas Turkey Research Project, funded by a restoration act, aims to better understand turkey habitats and related issues.
