Central Park's Great Lawn Temporarily Closed for Repairs Following Global Citizen Festival Damage

Central Park's Great Lawn, a popular gathering place, will be closed until April due to extensive damage caused by the Global Citizen Festival. The concert, which drew around 30,000 people despite heavy rain, resulted in the destruction of a third of the lawn. The Central Park Conservancy estimates that repairs could cost up to $1 million. Councilwoman Gale Brewer has called for the festival to be moved out of Central Park in the future. The Parks Department and Global Citizen have stated that they will assess the damage and cover the cost of repairs.
