Massive Fire Destroys Historic Spencer Church

A lightning strike caused a six-alarm fire that destroyed the First Congregational Church of Spencer, Massachusetts, a structure that dates back to the 1860s. The church's pastor, Bruce MacLeod, said the most value of the church was in terms of people's connection to it, as it was the site of many life events such as weddings, funerals, and baptisms. The church has a long history in the town, with the congregation dating back to 1743. The current church was built in 1863 after fire destroyed the previous building a year earlier.
