Armed Jan. 6 Defendant Arrested Near Obama's Home with Weapons and Ammunition

A Trump supporter and Jan. 6 defendant, Taylor Taranto, was arrested near former President Barack Obama's home with two guns, 400 rounds of ammunition, and a machete in his van. Taranto, who had been living in the van, faces four misdemeanor counts related to the Capitol riot. He had been in Washington to review security footage of the riot as part of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's offer. Taranto had posted recordings of his attempts to access the footage on social media. He showed up at Obama's residence after former President Donald Trump posted the address on his Truth Social platform. Taranto will remain in custody until a detention hearing, and concerns have been raised about his mental stability.
