NYC pizzerias face costly environmental regulations.

Proposed regulations in New York City stipulate that pizzerias cannot use a new oven without an emission control device, which could cost them tens of thousands of dollars. The regulations were passed in 2016, but compliance was delayed due to the pandemic. The city is asking pizzeria owners to install a scrubber, which recirculates the smoke into clean air, to cut carbon emissions by up to 75%. However, pizzeria owners are concerned that the devices could affect the taste of their iconic pies. A virtual public hearing will be held on July 27 to discuss the guidelines.
