Downtown Pittsburgh Sees Near Full Return of Visitors, Report Finds

Downtown Pittsburgh has seen a significant recovery in visitor numbers, with 1.7 million visitors in July, representing a 97% recovery rate from pre-pandemic levels. The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP) reported that overall recovery, including office workers and residents, reached 81% compared to pre-pandemic levels. The rebound has been led by cultural amenities and events, with local tourism rates increasing by 116% and out-of-state tourism almost back to pre-pandemic levels. However, office worker recovery is still lagging, with only 63% of weekday workers returning to Downtown. Business leaders and city officials are in conflict over how to manage the recovery, with business leaders emphasizing public safety as a key factor in bringing workers back.
