"Wisconsin Deer Farm Hit by Chronic Wasting Disease Outbreak"

A captive deer at Thundeer Trophy Whitetails hunting ranch in Washburn County, Wisconsin, has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD), prompting a quarantine on the 150-acre hunting preserve and deer farm. The remaining 300 deer on the property may have to be killed if the disease has spread. This is the first CWD positive case in Washburn County for a tame deer, and the county had a single previous case in a wild deer. CWD is an always fatal, neurological disease affecting deer, elk, and moose, and it has spread to 31 states and four provinces. The movement of deer between farms and hunting preserves is believed to contribute to the disease's spread.
