"Outbreak: Highly Contagious Chronic Wasting Disease Strikes Wisconsin Deer Farm"

A deer farm in Wisconsin has been placed under quarantine after a three-year-old doe tested positive for chronic wasting disease, a highly contagious and fatal brain disease. The farm, Thundeer Trophy Whitetails, is being tested for the disease among its other 300 animals. Chronic wasting disease, caused by a prion, has no cure or vaccine and can cause weight loss, stumbling, listlessness, and death. The disease can survive in the soil for months, making containment a challenge. Culls have been conducted at 22 farms in Wisconsin since 2002 when the disease was first detected, but no cases have been recorded in humans.
