"Alabama Discovers Rare Mosquito-Borne Virus"

A deadly mosquito-borne virus called Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) has been found in Alabama, specifically in Mobile County. EEE is highly deadly, killing approximately one-third of those who contract it. However, the virus is extremely rare, with only a few cases reported in the U.S. each year. Symptoms of EEE include fever, headache, vomiting, seizures, and coma. Currently, there are no medications available to treat or prevent EEE. Health officials recommend getting rid of standing water and debris where mosquitoes might breed, wearing long sleeves and pants, and using insect repellent to prevent infection.
