Fatal Fungal Outbreak at Michigan Paper Mill Leaves 1 Dead and 96 Sickened

A contract worker at a paper mill in Escanaba, Michigan has died from a fungal infection related to blastomycosis, which has forced the mill to temporarily close for deep cleaning. At least 21 cases of the infection have been confirmed among workers since March, with dozens more probable cases. The mill will undergo deep cleaning and other steps, including vent inspections, filter replacements, and tests on raw materials. The health department has said that the fungal infection does not pass from person to person.
