Cumberland County Animal Shelter Hit with Canine Virus Outbreak

Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge in Luzerne County, which houses dozens of animals available for adoption, is temporarily closed due to a virus outbreak affecting about 25% of their 40 dogs. The virus is causing diarrhea and loss of appetite, and while it is not known exactly what it is, other shelters across the country are experiencing similar outbreaks. The shelter is unable to take in any strays or surrenders until further notice and is not accepting in-person donations. The shelter will re-open when there is a full week without dogs showing any new symptoms.
