Pneumovirus Outbreak Forces Closure of Local Animal Shelter

The Wood County Humane Society in Ohio has been closed for over a week due to an outbreak of feline panleukopenia, a highly contagious and often deadly cat virus. The shelter staff has been deep cleaning the facility, and it will remain closed for at least another 10 days. Most of the cages and cat rooms are empty, and the remaining cats and kittens are quarantined. The virus can also be spread by humans, so the shelter is urging pet owners to ensure their cats are vaccinated. Donations are needed to support the increased costs of cleaning and care.
