Distemper outbreak leads to euthanasia of 25 dogs at Hamilton County shelter.

25 dogs have been euthanized due to Canine Distemper Virus at Cincinnati Animal CARE shelter in Hamilton County. The shelter has restricted intake and adoptions, but still faces challenges as the disease continues to spread. The shelter is testing dogs daily and moving those who tested positive but are asymptomatic or experiencing mild symptoms to another off-site facility. Dogs who tested negative with antibodies have been medically cleared for adoption or foster. The shelter urges the community to keep lost dogs in the neighborhood to reduce the risk of exposure to viruses and increase the chances of reuniting them with their families.
