Eric Dane dies at 53 from respiratory failure linked to ALS, death certificate reveals

Eric Dane, best known for Grey's Anatomy, died Feb. 19 in Los Angeles after a days-long battle with ALS. A death certificate obtained by USA TODAY lists respiratory failure as the immediate cause and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) as the underlying condition. Dane had publicly disclosed his ALS diagnosis in 2025 and had become an advocate for awareness and research; he is survived by his wife Rebecca Gayheart and their two daughters.
