United Airlines Unveils Revolutionary Polaris Business Class Upgrades
United Airlines has revealed details of its new Polaris business class seat design for single-aisle aircraft in a recently approved patent. The patent showcases a herringbone layout with seats set at a 49° angle, allowing for increased cabin density while still providing a lie-flat bed for passengers. The design includes a "space-sharing region" that provides shoulder space for one passenger and extra space for the lower arm of the adjacent passenger, further increasing cabin density. The patent also suggests that the seats could be installed in both the Boeing 737 MAX 10 and the Airbus A321XLR. Notably, the patent does not mention privacy doors or an extra premium layout for bulkhead row seats. The patents were filed by United Airlines and the inventors listed are employees of UK-based design firm Acumen, which was also the design partner for the original Polaris seats.
