European Commissioner Thierry Breton plans to confront Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg over reports that the company has failed to prevent the spread of child sexual abuse material on its platform during an in-person meeting at Meta's California headquarters on June 23. Breton also stated that Meta will be subject to the European Union's Digital Services Act by the end of the summer, and violations could carry "heavy sanctions." An investigation found that Meta-owned Instagram has helped foster a robust marketplace for child pornography.
