"Chinese Deepfake Approvals Sought by Huawei, Alibaba, and More"

Chinese technology companies, including Huawei and Alibaba, have submitted 110 applications to China's cyberspace regulator for approvals related to deepfake technology, which allows for the manipulation of visual and audio data. These applications are in compliance with regulations set out by the Cyberspace Administration of China in December. The approval process is separate from the regulation of generative artificial intelligence products. Five other Chinese tech firms, including Baidu and SenseTime Group, recently launched AI chatbots after receiving government approval. Deepfakes use AI technology to generate realistic visual and audio data that can be easily used for manipulation or misinformation.
