The Loneliness and Financial Burden of Millennial and Gen Z Parents

Millennial and Gen Z parents are facing challenges of loneliness and high childcare costs. The cost of childcare has tripled since 1991, and other child-rearing expenses, such as baby food and diapers, have also significantly increased. These financial pressures, coupled with a lack of community and societal support, are leading many young people to reconsider having children altogether. Policy solutions, such as affordable housing, childcare, and reducing student loan burdens, could help alleviate some of the challenges faced by young parents.
