Senator Josh Hawley has sent a letter to Tyson Foods CEO Donnie King, demanding answers regarding allegations of the company's involvement in dangerous and illegal child labor practices. The letter references a recent New York Times report that highlighted distressing cases of migrant children suffering injuries or dying while working illegally in Tyson's chicken processing plants. Hawley seeks explanations on past violations, cooperation with authorities, policy changes, and how complaints are managed. He also calls for commitments to protect whistleblowers, terminate contracts with fined companies, and undergo an independent audit. This follows a bill introduced by Hawley in May to outlaw child labor in large corporations' operations in the U.S. In March, Tyson Foods and other companies were found to have employed underage workers, resulting in fines.
