Maine newspaper chain's landmark sale to national nonprofit excludes 6 weeklies

Maine media mogul Reade Brower has sold his five daily newspapers and 17 weeklies to a national newspaper nonprofit, but six weeklies along Maine's northern coast were not included in the sale. The publisher of those newspapers was not given an explanation for their exclusion. Brower stated that he is keeping those newspapers, along with six specialty publications and a direct mail product. The future ownership of the six weeklies remains uncertain. The other newspapers in the sale were acquired by the nonprofit National Trust for Local News in collaboration with the Maine Journalism Foundation. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.
