"Quaker Oats Widens Recall Over Salmonella Risk, Includes Cap'n Crunch Products"

Quaker Oats has expanded its December recall to include more products potentially contaminated with salmonella, such as Cap'n Crunch Treats cereal bars and Gatorade Protein Peanut Butter Chocolate Bars. The recall covers items sold in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Saipan, with "best before" dates ranging between Jan. 11, 2024 and Oct. 31, 2024. Consumers are advised to check their pantries for the affected products and dispose of them, and can contact Quaker Consumer Relations for reimbursement. Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause illness, with symptoms including diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, and the CDC estimates it causes approximately 1.35 million illnesses, 26,500 hospitalizations, and 420 deaths in the United States each year.
