Elizabeth Holmes' Reaction to Portrayal in Media: "They're Playing a Character I Created"

Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced Theranos CEO, says that Amanda Seyfried's portrayal of her in the Hulu limited series The Dropout was not actually her, but a character she created to be taken seriously in the business world. Seyfried's performance won her a Golden Globe and an Emmy award. Jennifer Lawrence was originally set to portray Holmes in a different project but backed out, citing Seyfried's "terrific" performance. Kate McKinnon was also attached to The Dropout but dropped out in early 2021.
