The ChatGPT Revolution and the Future of Work

Nobel Prize-winning economist Sir Christopher Pissarides believes that AI could lead to a four-day workweek with the same income as employees work fewer hours due to increased productivity. A recent report by Goldman Sachs supports this claim, stating that AI will complement human workers rather than replace them. While two-thirds of US jobs are exposed to some degree of AI-informed automation, the average number of tasks in the daily workload for a given job leaves a significant amount of work for humans. A six-month pilot program for a four-day workweek in the US and Ireland found nine out of 10 participating companies said they will not go back to working five days.
