Bali Bans Crypto Payments and Moped Rentals for Tourists

Bali Governor Wayan Koster has warned foreign tourists against using cryptocurrency as a means of payment, stating that those who break the rules could face deportation, criminal penalties, or tough sanctions. Indonesian law mandates that all transactions carried out in the country must be settled in the local currency, the rupiah. Crypto is permitted in Indonesia as an asset, but its use as a form of payment is not allowed. Bali has suffered severely from Covid-19 travel restrictions, and the return of international visitors has brought its own problems, leading to efforts to crack down on bad tourist behavior on the island.
