Optimizing Airplane Boarding: Delta CEO Weighs in on United's Process Change

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian stated that the carrier is not planning to adopt United Airlines' new boarding method, which aims to reduce departure time, as Delta has found that simply boarding people and getting them moving through the plane is the fastest approach. However, Bastian mentioned that if United's method proves to be more efficient, Delta would consider implementing it. United's new boarding plan, called WILMA (window-middle-aisle), is expected to save up to two minutes per flight and has been implemented on all domestic and some international flights.
