The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received 30 complaints about power problems in Hyundai's Ioniq 5 electric SUV, with many owners reporting a complete or partial loss of propulsive power after hearing a loud popping noise. The NHTSA has opened a preliminary investigation into the issue, which appears to be a power surge that damages transistors, preventing the vehicle's 12-volt battery from recharging. Hyundai has said it will offer a software update and replace affected components if necessary, and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
