"National Forests Alleviate Firewood Shortage in Navajo Nation"

In the Navajo Nation, where many residents face a home-heating crisis due to firewood shortages and the closure of a coal-powered plant, the National Forest Foundation's Wood for Life program is providing a lifeline. The initiative distributes salvaged wood from national forests to Native communities, helping to alleviate heating costs and creating jobs within these communities. In 2023, the program delivered 10,000 cords of wood to five tribes across four states, demonstrating a sustainable approach to resource sharing and community support.
