The Safety of Cannabis-Based Medicines for Pediatric Cancer Patients

A retrospective review found that the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) dose of edible cannabis correlated with the degree of toxicity in children under 6 years old. THC ingestions of at least 1.7 mg/kg can predict severe and prolonged toxicity, suggesting that exposures exceeding this threshold should be managed in pediatric services with prolonged observation or admission capabilities. The study highlights the need for improved cannabis regulations and emphasizes the heightened risk posed by cannabis edibles in young children.
