"122 Anglers Rescued from Drifting Ice Floe on Minnesota Lake Amid Safety Warnings"

Over 120 ice fishers were rescued from a drifting ice floe on Upper Red Lake in Minnesota, near the Canadian border. The ice sheet detached from the shore, stranding the fishers, with four falling into the water before help arrived. This incident is one of several this winter due to unseasonably warm temperatures weakening the ice. State authorities have repeatedly warned about the dangers of thin ice, advising against venturing onto lakes with less than four inches of ice. An estimated 150,000 anglers ice fish in Minnesota each winter.
