Devoted Firefighter Remembered as Heart of Family and Community

Chicago firefighter Michael 'Mickey' Altman, 32, died from injuries sustained while battling a Rogers Park apartment fire; a fourth-generation CFD member who moved to Mount Greenwood with his wife Nora and they are expecting a baby, Altman was described by friends as loving and with the biggest heart. A funeral procession drew neighbors and students, and donors had raised more than $500,000 for his family as visitation and funeral plans were announced.
