Peace talks between the Ethiopian government and the rebel group Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) have ended without a deal for the third time. The OLA, an outlawed splinter group, seeks to address grievances of alleged marginalization and neglect in the Oromiya region. The violence in Oromiya has been a major security concern for Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, following the end of the civil war in Tigray. Both sides blamed each other for the failure of the talks, but the East African trade bloc IGAD expressed optimism for further negotiations. Conflict also persists in the Amhara region.
