Zhaoxin Introduces High-Performance KX-7000 Desktop CPUs with DDR5 Support

Chinese semiconductor company Zhaoxin has unveiled its KX-7000 CPU family, targeting the high-performance desktop PC market in China. The KX-7000 CPUs feature up to 8 cores, 8 threads, and clock speeds of up to 3.7 GHz. With a 2x performance uplift compared to the previous generation, the CPUs utilize the x86 Century Avenue core architecture and offer a brand-new platform ecosystem with advanced I/O capabilities. The chips support DDR5 and DDR4 memory, and come with an integrated graphics chip. Zhaoxin's KX-7000 CPUs are compatible with an LGA socket, resembling Intel's Alder Lake and Raptor Lake chips. The company plans to introduce solutions based on these CPUs in the near future.

Intel Proposes Streamlined 64-Bit Only X86-S Architecture

Intel has released a whitepaper proposing the removal of all pre-x86_64 features from x86 CPUs, including 16 and 32-bit modes, rings 1 and 2, and other low-level I/O features. The system would boot straight into 64-bit mode, which Intel believes is what most users use anyway. However, current 64-bit operating systems would not be compatible with this new boot procedure and low-level features. This proposal is reminiscent of Intel's failed Itanium architecture, and it remains to be seen how AMD will respond.
