Microsoft is testing a redesigned Windows 11 Widgets Board featuring a new AI-curated news feed called Copilot Discover, which offers faster, cleaner, and more customizable stories, along with new features like in-panel story reading and widget customization, aiming to enhance user experience and encourage developer engagement.
Microsoft is set to release its third feature update for Windows 11 in the coming weeks, which will include quality-of-life improvements to the Taskbar, Widgets Board, Settings, and accessibility features. The update will feature an updated Widgets Board layout, new animated Taskbar weather icons, 2FA code recognition in notifications, multi-app kiosk mode, and support for more languages in the live captions feature, among other changes. The update is expected to roll out in May/June.
Microsoft is updating the widgets board in Windows 11 with a larger canvas and dedicated sections for widgets and feed content. The new design features three columns, if supported by the device, and provides users with quick access to glanceable content from their apps and services, as well as personalized news content. The current layout reduces the room for widgets to make space for recommended articles, but Microsoft may continue to tweak it.
