First responders from Marion County and beyond paid their respects to Sgt. Cory Maynard, a fallen state trooper who was shot and killed while responding to a shooting call in Mingo County. Maynard was an organ donor, and his body was transported from Charleston to Pittsburgh, passing under the Fairmont Gateway bridge. Emergency service vehicles and dozens of EMS volunteers and employees lined I-79 as the convoy carrying Maynard’s body drove by. Maynard, who was originally from Belfry, Kentucky, was sworn into the West Virginia State Police on October 9, 2007, and is survived by his wife and two children.

Timothy Kennedy, 29, has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of West Virginia State Police Sgt. Cory Maynard. Maynard was shot while investigating a shooting call in Beech Creek. Kennedy was taken into custody after a seven-hour manhunt. Maynard was a decorated trooper who had been honored with a Lifesaving Award in 2015. This is the third police officer killed in West Virginia in the last two-and-a-half years.

"Grafton Walmart Shooting Leaves 2 Injured"

Ohio man arrested with large amounts of drugs after high-speed pursuit.

A high-speed pursuit on I-77 in West Virginia ended with the arrest of Gary Bland Jr., who was found to have a large amount of oxycodone pills and other drug contraband in his vehicle. Bland Jr. will be charged with Fleeing With Reckless Indifference & Possession With Intent To Deliver upon medical release. No injuries were reported and no vehicles were damaged during the pursuit.
