Dog Parks Closed and Precautions Taken Amidst Nationwide Dog Respiratory Disease Outbreak
The West Lafayette Parks Department has closed all dog parks until further notice to prevent the spread of a Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease. The closure does not apply to the membership-based dog park in Lafayette. Dr. Greg Loomis of the Tippecanoe County Health Department believes the disease may involve a viral infection followed by a bacterial infection, similar to how respiratory infections progress in humans. Dog owners are advised to contact their veterinarian if their dogs exhibit symptoms such as coughing.
