Disney World Halts Annual Pass Sales Amid High Demand and Controversy

Walt Disney World will pause sales of its Annual Passes at 11:00p.m. EDT and resume sales tomorrow morning. Guests who remain in the virtual queue overnight will keep their place in line. Three out of the four pass tiers have not been available for purchase since November 2021, and existing passholders can renew their passes outside of their renewal window. The passes are limited, and waiting in a queue does not guarantee ownership. The price for each pass tier has increased, and blockout dates vary depending on the selected tier.

Disney's TRON Lightcycle Run creates buzz with sold-out Lightning Lane and virtual queue changes.

Lightning Lane access for TRON Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom sold out before the park even opened on its grand opening day. The virtual queue for the ride also filled up quickly. Guests can still ride using the virtual queue, which opens at 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. for all guests. Individual Lightning Lane access for TRON Lightcycle Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train can be purchased separately from Disney Genie+.

The TRON Lightcycle Run virtual queue filled up within seconds on its opening day at Walt Disney World. Guests can join the virtual queue through the My Disney Experience app or purchase Individual Lightning Lane access for $20 per person. There is no standby queue available. The virtual queue opens at 7:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. for extended evening hours. TRON Lightcycle Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are the only two attractions at Magic Kingdom that offer Individual Lightning Lane access.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will continue to be offered as an Individual Lightning Lane attraction even after TRON Lightcycle Run opens in April. TRON Lightcycle Run will also be available for Individual Lightning Lane purchases during its soft and grand openings. Guests can purchase only two Individual Lightning Lane attractions per person, per day. Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle/Run offer a virtual queue option, which is free of charge but fills up quickly.

TRON Lightcycle / Run will begin soft openings next week at Magic Kingdom before its grand opening on April 4. The ride is based on the "TRON Legacy" movie and reaches speeds of nearly 60 miles per hour. Guests will need to use virtual queue boarding groups or purchase Individual Lightning Lane access to ride. The ride's construction was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
