All pandas in the United States are set to return to China as agreements between U.S. zoos and China are expiring. The National Zoo in Washington, D.C., along with zoos in Memphis, Atlanta, and San Diego, have already returned their pandas or will do so by the end of the year, marking the first time in 50 years that the U.S. will be without pandas. This move has sparked speculation about the state of U.S.-China relations. The Edinburgh Zoo in Britain will also lose its two pandas if new contracts are not reached. Atlanta will be the last U.S. city to house pandas, but their contracts are set to expire in early 2024.
