The U.S. Treasury says President Donald Trump’s signature will soon appear on paper dollar bills, marking the first time a sitting president’s signature is on U.S. currency and tying into the 250th anniversary celebrations; the move has raised legal questions since living presidents have been restricted from appearing on currency, and Democrats have introduced legislation to ban such depictions.
The $2 bill, which has been in circulation since the 18th century, is often overlooked but can be worth a significant amount of money if you have the right bill. Uncirculated $2 bills from 1890 are estimated to sell for $4,500, while bills from 1862 to 1917 could be worth $1,000 or more. Even newer versions of the $2 bill can carry value, with a 2003 bill selling for $2,400 at auction and potentially being purchased now for $6,000. Despite its tarnished reputation, the $2 bill remains in circulation and is still being produced by the U.S. Treasury.
