Red Sea Underwater Data Cable Cuts Disrupt Global Internet Connectivity

Three Red Sea underwater data cables providing internet and telecommunications have been cut, with concerns about the cables being targeted in the Houthi campaign. The sabotage of telecommunication lines could further escalate the monthslong crisis, disrupting global shipping and crucial data traffic from Asia to Europe. The Houthis have denied targeting the cables, blaming disruptions on British and U.S. military operations, while continuing to launch significant attacks on ships in the Red Sea and surrounding waters. The British military warned of a new attack in the Gulf of Aden, with a Liberia-flagged, Israel-affiliated container ship sustaining damage and issuing a distress call. The Houthis claim the attack and vow to continue preventing Israeli navigation until combat operations in the Gaza Strip cease.
