PM Modi advocates for UCC, criticizes opposition's vote-bank politics

This comes as the government may be considering bringing a bill to Parliament that addresses issues of marriage, divorce, adoption, and inheritance applicable to all communities. Modi also criticized the neglect of Muslims belonging to backward castes by the upper caste-dominated leadership and secular political parties, accusing them of pursuing vote-bank politics. The public support for UCC coincides with the Law Commission seeking public comments on the issue, with the 30-day window ending on July 14.
