The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) has announced that heavy vehicles with oversize or overweight permits will not be allowed to travel in certain counties during the total solar eclipse on April 8, in an effort to reduce traffic and potential crashes. The restriction affects several counties in Central Texas, with the exception of Fayette, Caldwell, Bastrop, and Lee counties.

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles experienced a system outage affecting all online and in-person services, including county tax offices and registration renewal locations. All systems have since come back online, and TxDMV Regional Service Centers will reopen at noon. The department handles vehicle registrations and titles, as well as license plates.
