Tragic End for Troubled Omaha Priest: Stabbed to Death in Church Rectory
A suspect has been charged with murder after the stabbing death of Fr. Stephen Gutgsell, a priest in Omaha. Gutgsell called 911 to report a break-in at his parish rectory, but by the time police arrived, he had been stabbed and later died from his injuries. The motive for the attack is unknown, and it is unclear if Gutgsell was the intended target. The suspect, Kierre Williams, was arrested at the scene. Gutgsell had a troubled past, having been previously arrested for embezzling over $125,000 from the Omaha parish where he served. He was given probation and ordered to pay restitution. Gutgsell's brother, also a priest, recently pled guilty to theft charges. The Omaha archdiocese has asked for prayers for Gutgsell and his family.
